Ale & Windlass

Here we see demonstrated the art, for a true art it is, of balancing a pint of beer on a windlass (and for those not in the know that's the 'L' shaped bar used for cranking open the paddles on a lock gate). Sounds impossible? Not in the hands of the indomitable Bones!

STAGE 1 - The dry run
Take one windlass, one pint glass, a mobile
and a set of keys.

STAGE 2 - The wet run
Having assessed the potential risk of losing a pint, a
valuable boaters asset, the bet is on.
Is it really possible to balance a full pint on
an upended windlass?

STAGE 3 - The bet won!
A miracle performed and ne'er a drop spilled.
We don't recommend you try this at home though
- a misspent youth and years of practice tend
to be necessary prerequisites for success
as an Ale Windlasser!

Many thanks to Allan Jones for the pictures and
Mortimer Bones for her unbeatable panache.
Make sure you visit their great narrowboat sites too:
