 | The People & Legendsof the Wey Valley
In a prosperous region once dominated by royal palaces, many centuries of control by the Bishops of Winchester, and a high concentration of people attracted by the variety of industry, it's not surprising that the valley had the nobility, the wealthy politicians and the movers and shakers living along its length. Scroll down to link to pages about the big names and the legends of the valley. We've also just started a new section featuring the work and lives of people living in the Valley today. |

“Rationing was not nice as I can recall. All those long queues for anything you could get. My family took turns to queue and when someone did about 15 minutes, then someone else took over, if you lost your place, then it was tough. You had to go to the back of the line. The term ‘under the counter’ meant a few shops put special items under the counter to be reserved for special customers. My hubby said it was favours for certain folk and this caused a lot of ill-feeling.” Pauline Cox. Surrey Memories and Families at War. Michael Green WEY VALLEY MADNESS: THE WOBBLY HILL RACES
