Devil's Punch Bowl PART THREE |
||||
The focus of the clearance and excavation in Boundless Valley to the east of the Devil's Punch Bowl is the entrance of the twin bore tunnel which will carry the A3 213 feet (65m) beneath Gibbet Hill. 11.6 million cubic feet (330,000 cubic metres) of earth and rock will be excavated from the tunnel using three German-built machines. 62 miles (100km) of electrical cabling will be installed to power the safety and lighting systems within the tunnel. Here you can see clearance for the A3 approach with the twin entrances for the tunnel prepared in readiness for boring into Gibbet Hill. |
